Cherries

Sweet cherries are one of the true gems of summer at Parlee Farms in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, just north of Boston. Nestled among our orchard rows, more than 1,400 cherry trees spread across 1.5 acres, creating a beautiful setting for families to enjoy one of the season’s most anticipated harvests.

Our cherry trees are grown on full-dwarf rootstock, making the fruit easy to reach for visitors of all ages. We grow seven delicious varieties of sweet cherries, with Black Gold and Regina serving as our signature favorites. These rich, ruby-red cherries are known for their exceptional sweetness and thrive in our New England orchard.

Cherry season in Massachusetts is as special as it is brief. For just a few precious weeks, typically from late June through mid-July, the trees are laden with ripe fruit ready for picking. Because cherries are sensitive to summer weather—especially rain during harvest time—the season can sometimes be even shorter.

When the cherries are ripe, there’s nothing quite like strolling through the orchard, filling a bag with sun-warmed fruit. We invite you to enjoy this cherished harvest while it lasts and make lasting memories with family and friends at the farm.

A few  cherry facts:

  • Cherries are very perishable and do not ripen after picking. So pick fully ripe cherries and refrigerate soon after purchase. These can remain fresh in your refrigerator for at least 2 days.
  • Studies have shown cherries to have plenty of health benefits! They are high in antioxidants, are low in cholesterol, fat, and sodium. They are also a good source of Vitamin C and fiber.
