August is here, and that means peach season has arrived at Parlee Farms! This is one of our favorite times of the summer, when the peach trees are filled with beautiful fruit ready to be picked and enjoyed. Our beaches are juicy and fresh and definitely a summer highlight.

There is something special about eating a peach that has ripened right on the tree. Sweet, juicy, and full of summer flavor, fresh peaches are worth looking forward to all season long. Whether peach picking is already one of your summer traditions or you are planning your first visit, August is a wonderful time to come spend a day at the farm.

Peach Season Is Underway

We grow 15 varieties of peaches and three varieties of nectarines at Parlee Farms. These varieties ripen at different times throughout August, which means the peaches available for picking can change as the month goes along. Part of the fun is seeing what is ready when you visit, but you can look ahead to see what we have by visiting Today’s Farm News. We sell out quickly, so come sooner than later.

Since picking conditions and availability can change quickly, always check our Today’s Farm News page before coming to the farm. We post our current hours, picking information, and updates there to help you plan your visit.

Find the Perfect Peach

When you are picking peaches, color is one of the best ways to tell whether the fruit is ready. Instead of focusing on the red blush, take a look at the peach’s background color. A tree-ripe yellow peach should no longer have a green background, while white-flesh varieties will have a lighter, creamy color.

Ripe peaches should also come away from the branch fairly easily. There is no need to tug or pull hard. Handle the fruit gently as you pick, since ripe peaches can bruise easily. Our team will also let you know which areas of the orchard are open and ready for picking that day and can also give you tips for picking the best ones.

Bring Summer Flavor Home pick your own peaches at Parlee Farms in Tyngsboro MA

Of course, you do not need an elaborate plan for your peaches. One of the best things you can do is eat one fresh!

If you bring home more than you can eat right away, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your harvest. Peaches are wonderful in cobblers, crisps, pies, and other baked desserts. You can slice them onto yogurt or ice cream, add them to a summer salad, or grill them for something a little different.
