Early Blueberry Varieties at Parlee Farms

We grow several varieties of blueberries at Parlee Farms, which helps extend the season and gives our guests a great picking experience. At the beginning of the season, two varieties to look for are Bluetta and Toro. Here’s more information about them:

  • Bluetta. One of the first blueberries to ripen each season, Bluetta produces small to medium-sized berries with a sweet flavor and classic deep blue color. It’s a favorite for fresh snacking and an excellent way to kick off blueberry season.
  • Toro. Known for its large, juicy berries, Toro offers outstanding flavor with a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. This variety is delicious fresh from the bush and equally well suited for baking, freezing, and your favorite summer recipes.

As the season continues, more varieties will ripen. You can learn more about our blueberry fields and the varieties we grow by visiting our Blueberry Picking Guide.

Enjoy Blueberries Fresh or Save Them for Later Blueberry bread at Parlee Farms in Tyngsboro MA

One of the best things about blueberries is how easy they are to store. After picking, you can keep them in the refrigerator and enjoy them fresh for several days. If you have more than you can use right away, blueberries freeze very well.

To freeze blueberries, spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and place them in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag or container. This helps keep them from clumping together, making it easy to grab just what you need for smoothies, muffins, pancakes, or baking.

Freezing blueberries is a great way to enjoy the taste of summer long after the season is over.
